Data Encoding

"Want to encode a key number or bio data on your cards during the print process?"

There are many card printer applications which require digital data to be encoded on to the card during the print process, and some examples are:
  • To store a unique access-control pass number.
  • To store biometric information related to the cardholder.
  • To store medical information and history.
  • To store electronic cash or credit for transit fares or vending systems.
  • To store loyalty or frequent flier information.

Magicard Rio and Tango printers offer all commonly used data encoding options which makes them suitable for almost every application.

The basic encoding options are:
  • Barcodes
  • HiCo Magstripe
  • LoCo Magstripe
  • Smart Card
  • Contactless Smart Card
  • 1D and 2D formats
  • ANSI/ISO
  • ABA/ISO
  • ISO 7816
  • ISO14443 A&B
All Magicard printers can print barcodes as shipped, and so this option does not require the specification of any additional encoder hardware.

Ultra offers an optional Magstripe encoder which will encode and read both HiCo and LoCo cards, this option should be specified on initial purchase (/M) since it cannot be retrofitted.

For contact smart cards with an embedded microprocessor and/or memory chip, Ultra offers a built-in contact station with connection to the rear panel. This option, and the required contact arrangement should also be specified on initial purchase (/S). The Magstripe and smart card options can be specified together if required (/MS).

For Contactless Smart Cards such as Mifare, Legic, and I-class, Ultra offers a range of ISO 14443 A&B compatible encoders.
